CHPS Partners

In order to bring CHPS to Washington, New York, Massachusetts and the Northeast, CHPS has partnered with several organizations. These organizations are:

Massachusetts:

Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MTC)

MTC is the state’s development agency for renewable energy and the innovation economy. MTC has made available funding and design tools for schools and school design teams that want to build high performance schools. The CHPS Criteria and Planning volumes have been adapted for Massachusetts and can be found on the MTC website. MTC also provides outreach and education for school districts and design firms on high performance school building. To register a CHPS project using the MA-CHPS Criteria, please apply online.

New York:

New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA)

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) partnered with the New York State Education Department (NYSED) to adapt the CHPS Criteria to New York State codes, regulations and climate zones. In 2007 the New York High Performance Schools Guidelines (NY-CHPS 1.1) became a voluntary Appendix to the NYSED Manual of Planning Standards. NYSERDA continues support of NY-CHPS through the NY-CHPS Verification Program offering no-cost, third party verification of compliance with NY-CHPS, as well as incentives for energy efficient technologies and renewable energy technologies in schools. NYSERDA offers training on NY-CHPS and best practices for architects and engineers through an on-site lunch and learn series, conferences and the High Performance School Design Online Training program. For more information, contact NYSERDA at NYSERDA Energy Smart Schools.

Washington:

The Superintendent of Public Instruction for Washington State

The Washington Sustainable Schools Protocol is the state’s benchmark for design and construction of high performance schools. The Protocol is based on the CHPS Criteria, and was a result of a three-year long pilot program during which it was decided that CHPS was the best high performance building program for the state. The Protocol was developed out of the CHPS program. To register a CHPS project using the WA-CHPS Criteria, please contact OSPI.

The Northeast - Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Connecticut:

Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships (NEEP)

NEEP has adapted the CHPS Criteria Volume for New England schools. NEEP provides education and outreach to school districts and design firms on high performance school building. To register a CHPS project using the NE-CHPS Criteria, please contact NEEP.
